As soon as i typed out the title of this post, quite a few quotes popped into my mind. None of them seem to do justice to the exhilaration I feel right now.
As clichéd as it may sound, ' A conversation changed my life'. I have always been skeptical about life changing moments, life changing conversation etc. I have firmly believed that it is the little things we do everyday that culminates in determining the grand or not so grand path that our life takes. I stand corrected. I have realised that the direction that the small actions of everyday are determined by the bigger picture we have in mind. A moment or a conversation that jerks us back to the big picture or redefines the ultimate purpose we think up for ourself can have a very big impact on what we do everyday.
Reading slambooks from the past can be very painful - I get reminded of how full of dreams, hopes and promises each of us were in the early adolescent years. As we grow up, so called practicality takes over.
Then, I tend to wind up thinking of how boring the mundane life is now. I'v been living a life resigned to the fact that life is going to be boring. It took a good conversation to bring back that spark that makes me wake up each day feeling like I am here for a purpose.
I have realised that the everyday charade is indeed only a temporary means to achieve a purpose, which in turn would fuel a higher purpose. All pieces seem to fit beautifully to take me to the place I have set my heart upon.
It is all about positioning these propositions in our mind, even if it just to convince ourself and keep reminding us of what we are working through. It helps to put down the dreams and thoughts on paper. Doing so, formalises the commitment one is making to oneself. A few years down the line, I'm sure each of us would be surprised to see how much of it we have actually achieved. ideas that seem impractical and unachievable right now are just a leap away - a leap of faith.
It is easy to forget these dreams, get bogged down by the mundane and crib about life everyday - and still do nothing about it. I refuse to belong to that clan anymore. There are a few promises I have made to myself and I will do what it takes to achieve them. If you are around to help, thanks - If you are around to pass on some cynical comment, buzz off - keep the negativity to yourself, I'm here for a reason.
Most importantly, the-friend-I-had-lunch-with-a-couple-of-days-back, THANK YOU - You changed my life.
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
